UDIM Preflight — Local Texture Set QA

Find missing required UDIM tiles and naming problems before texture handoff. Declare the tiles you expect, scan the folder, and get an HTML + JSON report pointing to what needs attention.

You get the Python checker, setup helpers and guides. Linux runtime verified; Python and Pillow 12.3.0 required. Windows/macOS runtime remains unverified.

Your source textures are never renamed, modified or uploaded. Scans make no network requests and use no telemetry, accounts or paid API.

What it checks

• Names using the BaseName.####.extension UDIM profile, including ambiguous names and duplicate set/tile declarations.
• Missing tiles when you explicitly declare which tiles should exist.
• Image dimensions, aspect ratios, formats, and corrupt or empty supported images.
• Recognized BaseColor, Normal and Roughness channel coverage.

Results use PASS / WARN / FAIL / UNKNOWN. Sparse layouts and mixed resolutions may be intentional; a gap alone does not prove a missing tile.

Requirements and supported formats

Python is required. This is a command-line tool, not an engine plugin or a standalone executable.

• Scanner runtime tested on Linux with Python 3.12.13 and 3.13.5; Pillow 12.3.0.
• Windows/macOS scanner runtime has not yet been verified. Windows helpers received static checks only.
• Supported image decoding: PNG, JPEG, TGA, TIFF and BMP.
• EXR, DDS and HDR decoding is unsupported in this release and returns UNKNOWN.

One-time setup may use the internet to install the free pinned Pillow dependency if it is missing. Scanning itself is offline.

A real before/after example

The unchanged 0.1.2 release was run on synthetic PNG fixtures on Linux. A valid sparse layout containing tiles 1001, 1002, 1003 and 1011 returned PASS. A second example explicitly required tile 1011 but omitted that file: the report returned FAIL and identified the missing declared tile. After the existing synthetic tile was added to a separate input copy, the next scan returned PASS.

The scanner detected the problem; it did not repair the files. This demonstration verifies the documented PNG folder check, not engine import or Windows/macOS runtime compatibility.

Scope, support and license

PASS means the implemented checks passed. Mesh UVs, material wiring, colour-space intent, GPU memory and runtime rendering are outside the tool’s scope. A PASS report does not guarantee a successful engine import.

Support covers reproducible bugs in documented functionality and setup. Please use the page comments for non-sensitive questions. Custom rules, asset inspection or repair, remote desktop assistance and project-specific Blender/Unreal debugging are outside the support scope.

The package includes an MIT license permitting commercial use and redistribution. Your purchase pays for the convenience of the packaged utility and documentation; it does not provide exclusive access to the algorithm. Pillow is covered by its own license in the included third-party notices.
